This forum is presented by State Representatives, the New Canaan Housing Authority, and Planning & Zoning on the bills before the CT Legislature on zoning and affordable housing. The proposal has the potential to change the landscape of New Canaan without the Town’s input, and it aggressively seeks to lower property values and take local zoning control away from the Towns. If you believe in local governance, you need to hear what is currently under consideration in Hartford. Hear from our local leaders as they discuss these topics in the context of the proposed legislation in Hartford.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this Town Hall is to educate and raise awareness of existing statutory language impacting local land use and zoning and explain the application and interpretation of CT General Statute CGS 8-2 (Local Zoning Authorities) and CGS 8-30g (Affordable Housing). Update current proposed statute changes in CT General Assembly to land use and zoning in the Planning and Development Committee. We will also explore and better understand the mission and goals of DeSegregate CT.

Learn about the Pending Zoning Application in Woodbridge, which is recommending changes to the town’s POCD as well as text changes to their zoning regulations. This application if accepted will allow not only this 4-family development in single family zone but remove local P& Z oversight of all such future multifamily development in the town in favor of by right multifamily development in “Opportunity Zones.” Learn why this will have long term implications for all towns in CT, not just Woodbridge.
